This chapter describes the process of installing the MySQL Enterprise Monitor on all operating systems.
Installation Sequence
A working installation requires the installation of:
One MySQL Enterprise Service Manager. It stores its data in a database repository. You can use an existing MySQL instance for the repository, or set up a separate instance as part of the MySQL Enterprise Service Manager installation. See Section 15.6.2, “Installing the Service Manager”.
The MySQL Enterprise Advisors. These are installed as part of the MySQL Enterprise Service Manager install, on the same machine.
One or more MySQL Enterprise Agents, one for each MySQL server to monitor. See Section 15.6.3, “Monitor Agent Installation”. Install the MySQL Enterprise Service Manager first, because the Agent installation asks for credentials and network settings that you choose as you install the MySQL Enterprise Service Manager.
You usually install the Agent on the same machine that hosts the monitored MySQL server, but you can install it on any machine that has network access to both the monitored MySQL server and the MySQL Enterprise Dashboard.
The Agent inspects a specific MySQL server, and transmits health and usage data back to the Service Manager. The Advisors interpret the results, which are displayed in the browser-based MySQL Enterprise Dashboard.
After installing and starting the Service Manager and Agents, configure the settings in the MySQL Enterprise Dashboard. See Section 15.6.2.7, “MySQL Enterprise Service Manager Configuration Settings and Advisor Installation”.
Installer Files
Depending on your configuration and environment, download these files from the download page of the MySQL Enterprise web site. These include:
MySQL Enterprise Service Manager, MySQL Enterprise Dashboard, and Advisors for the platform that you intend to execute the MySQL Enterprise Service Manager on. For a new installation, this installer is named
mysqlmonitor-. For an upgrade installation, this installer is namedversion-platform-installer.binmysqlmonitor-.version-platform-update-installer.binOne or more MySQL Enterprise Agent, one for each MySQL Server to monitor. In the typical scenario where you install the Agent on the same machine as each monitored MySQL server, make a list of the platforms your MySQL servers run on, then download the Agent installer package for each of those platforms. For a new Agent installation, this installer is named
mysqlmonitoragent-. For an upgrade Agent installation, this installer is namedversion-platform-installer.extensionmysqlmonitoragent-.version-platform-update-installer.extension
